Our Father, 3 Hail Marys, Glory Be
Reflect
At the end of this month, the Church will celebrate the Jubilee of Young People as part of the Holy Year reflecting on the virtue of hope. Young adults are invited to make a pilgrimage to Rome or observe the Jubilee celebration in their local diocese. Our recent Holy Fathers have emphasized the special role that young people have in the Church, with Pope St. John Paul II establishing World Youth Day as an international gathering of the young Church to inspire and encourage them in their faith. The papal bull for the Holy Year encourages us, “With renewed passion, let us demonstrate care and concern for adolescents, students and young couples, the rising generation. Let us draw close to the young, for they are the joy and hope of the Church and of the world!”
Despite the increasing challenges that young people face in our world today, Pope Francis has called young adults to be pilgrims of hope. For “Christian hope does not deceive or disappoint because it is grounded in the certainty that nothing and no one may ever separate us from God’s love.” When we consider the battle for life, hope is essential in all our efforts to build a culture that welcomes, protects, and celebrates the gift of human life. Amidst increasing threats to human life, the young must carry forth the truth that every human life made in the image and likeness of God has innate value and infinite dignity. We pray that the Church, through the witness of the young, may “always be prepared to defend the rights of those who are most vulnerable.”
